Description

The Coapilla name comes from the Spanish Coapa and it means Snake River. Until the year 300 A.D. it was occupied by the Zoque and later on by the Olmecas. Its people of Zoque language were dedicated to make petates and to carry loads in their shoulders.

Here we can appreciate the Laguna Verde with approximately 8 areas of pine trees and a good weather. At present it has a population superior to 7100 inhabitants and it is located at 1560 msnm.

This construction comes from the XVII Century. It has an access vane in the center and a medium point arch finished by a small cornice and a belfry tower in each side.

How to Arrive?

It is located 75 kilometers from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, over the federal road to Hydroelectric Central Plant Ing. Manuel Moreno Torres (Chicoasén). Continue by state road 102 going through the San Fernando, Chicoasén and Copainalá towns.
