Description

Tonina is a sacred space in an artificial mountain of seven platforms, over a calcareous hill over an extended and long valley. At 85km from San Cristobal de Las Casas lived the peak at VI century a. C. and was a military power, as can be seen with many prisoner representations in stucco and stone. The most important governor, Tzots Choj (Tiger - Bat). In Tonina the last classic Mayan age inscription was written in 909.

This place is visited all year and it is suggested to bring drinking water, food and adequate clothes and mountain shoes, sweat shirt, raincoat for summer rains.
