Description

A small valley, hot and dry, is located at Coneta village, appeared at Comitán Parroquia since XVI century. As per colonial reports, their inhabitants were coxoh talk; as other low lands the inhabitants were eliminated due to epidemics and eroded people; since 1839 the place were depopulated and only the church ruins were made at the second half of XVII were ruins.

This building comes from the second half of XVII century. The importance of the church comes from local artists at a special colonial Chiapa.

This building is located at the small valley watered by a river located a few meters north of the church; it could have been founded in 1596, the frontispiece architecture is unique, not only in Chiapas but in all colonial Mexican and Central American art, since some of its elements are exclusive designs; there are traces of decoration painted with foliated volutes, human figures and other prehispanish shape motifs on the main door, a big eye looking like a prehispanish mask in the center of it, the arches and door archivolts are treated in a plateresque way.

The fourth frontispiece level keeps some flowerpots similar to those of the second body, relieves difficult to interpret, third body niches more capricious than the second one are sided by tiny candle stick columns, the array of blind arches located on first level, contain niches that once had painted saints, and the pilaster decoration were designed with round shapes from which spirals rise.
