Santa Maria is a basic property from the XIX Century, as mentioned by Fray Juan Lopez in 1859,
presented by Juan Ortega and the haciendas and ranchs of the Parroquia de La Santisima
Trinidad of the Zapaluta village in 1871, where they farmed coffee, sugar
cane and corn; they listed labor for the farming of Soconusco. Favored this phase
the estate was passed to a municipal neighbor. The estate kept the architecture and traditional
constructions, old collections and art.
This ranch keeps its traditional architecture, antique collections and art works, as well as a view
of mountains and small lakes in the distance.

This is an old ranch of the landlord's house; it has a portal with wooden shaft even columns
of rectangular base and Tuscan capital supporting series of depressed arches. Architectonic
array has a corridor of nine rooms; some of them interconnected through straight wall
openings; they keep the original brick floor, some of them show a decorated wall.
It has a dinning room (a kitchen with portal in three sides with wooden columns); it also has just
remodeled chapel exhibiting sacred art works from the colonial period; as well as items from
several countries. At presently this place has been provided with the lodging tourist service.

From Comitan city, in the 190 Panamericana Federal Highway, deviate to Parque Nacional Lagunas de Montebello, 15km before Chinkultic Archeological Zone.
There are daily guided tours in different languages, in Comitan de Dominguez city.
