In Chiapas state, Santo Doming Preachers order was the first one evangelization and establishing
convents and regular trace towns. Both architectonic and urbanism representatives of a plan which
pretended to create a new Christianity free from European vices through America.
At XVI century's second half and early XVII century most buildings from this stage are Chiapas'
colonial art monuments. Zoques' region temples are outstanding candidates for the Humanity
Heritage list: Tecpatan, Copainala, Chapultenango, Tapalapa, Pantepec, Rayon, Coapilla, Chicoasen
and Quechula immersed temple, which appears when water level lowers at Malpaso
pass.
In chiapa zone aoutstands the Santo Domingo de Chiapa de Corzo convent and the visit of San
Esteban de Suchiapa. On Royal Road Copanaguastla, Soyatitan, Coapa and Coneta temple trace.
Comitan de Dominguez and Ocosingo main temples are Dominican. Santo Domingo de San
Cristobal de las Casas deserves a special mention, founded in the XVI century but with a great
baroque front from XVII century. San Cristobal's Dominic group is a main Chiapas and Centro
American monuments from all times.
