San Critobal de las Casas belongs to the Mexico's Magical Villages Program, which
helps value to different country's communities, capable to receive certain amount of tourists and with
the main characteristic of been located near touristy sites or near big cities, with good road accesses;
some historic and/or religious value; and also the government and community will of participating
in this program.
Actually the magic towns program gathers besides San Cristobal de las Casas, Comala in Colima;
Dolores Hidalgo and San Miguel de Allende, in Guanajuato; Taxco, en Guerrero; Huasca de Ocampo,
in Hidalgo; Tepalpa and Tequila, at Jalisco; Tepotzotlan, in Mexico State; Patzcuaro, at Michoacan;
Tepoztlan, in Morelos; Mexcaltitan, at Nayarit; Cuetzalan, in Puebla; Real de Catorce, at San Luis
Potosi and Izamal, in Yucatan.
Mexico's Magical Villages Program has an integral strategy directed toward protection, conservation
and improvement of urban image and public services; tourist attention, promotion and
commercialization of tourist products; many federal departments population assistance technique,
and modernization from region's the micro, small and middle touristy enterprises, among others.
